Week of June 7
The world is on edge
During the past week, we have seen what prejudice, discrimination or hatred directed at someone because of colour, ethnicity, or national origin can lead to. Racism is an attack on the image of God that has been given to each of us by the Maker (Gen. 5:1-3). I believe that because everyone has been created by God, we are all unified with the Lord, and with each other. Racism rejects what God has done by refusing to acknowledge the image of God in the other, the stranger and the one who is diverse.
The fact that we were created in the image of God should remind us that each person is a living expression of God who must be respected and preserved, and never dishonoured. Therefore, my brothers and sister, the murder of a black man in board daylight must be met with accountability and justice.
